Foremarke School Dubai is looking to recruit an outstanding Music Teacher with US/European recognised QTS to join in January 2019.

 

Foremarke already consistently delivers stunning academic results, an attainment made even more remarkable in that many of our children do not have English as their first language, but we also have a strong focus on music, art and sports, where our sports programme produced 32 champions across Dubai in 8 different sports over the last academic year.

To raise the profile of music throughout the school by effective leadership and excellent teaching and to encourage an appreciation and enthusiasm for music in children.

 

Whole School Responsibilities:

The Music Teacher is responsible for the efficient running, development and performance of the department, supporting all members of the department in their responsibilities, and directing, as appropriate, the work of those colleagues to ensure successful and effective teaching and learning.

The expectations of Music Teachers at Foremarke are:

  • To be an enthusiastic advocate of the subject, ensuring its high profile in the school and wider community.
  • To be responsible for the organisation and rehearsals of all productions and performances
  •  To teach music throughout the school.
  • To organise individual instrumental lessons for pupils, liaising with parents accordingly.
  • Manage the Foremarke School Conservatoire, peripatetic music teachers, coordinating their timetables and reports and overseeing their professional performance.
  • To attend school assemblies and accompany singing.
  • To arrange a calendar of musical events highlighting music throughout the school, including internal and external concerts and performances by the various ensembles, individual musicians and other pupil groups.
  • To organise and oversee the inter-house singing competition.
  • To promote the profile of the subjects by ensuring a presence on the website, good quality displays and entering or hosting relevant competitions, music days, festivals and workshops.
  • To be responsible for the subject long-term planning, preparing a syllabus and schemes of work.
  • To support the development of our most talented musicians; to support music scholarship applications as necessary.
  • To arrange and orchestrate music as necessary.
  • To produce a policy document that details the curriculum and delivery of the subject in the Foundation School and the Prep School.
  • To prepare a departmental development plan that reflects the requirements of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
  • To uphold the School Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Assessment and Marking Policies with regard to the subject as well as taking account of other relevant policies.
  • To support and continue the school’s commitment to the development of ICT in the teaching of music.
  • To advise teachers on subject matter, instigating creative teaching practice in the fields of practical work and independent learning.
  • To organise and chair curriculum meetings with respect to music throughout the school as appropriate.
  • To manage and keep an inventory of resources.
  • To oversee the acquisition of resources in line with the budgetary requirements.
  • To ensure correct procedures and safe practice are being followed by all teachers involved in music teaching.
  • To keep abreast of trends and developments in the subject, advising the Deputy Head (Academic) and the Headmistress with regard to future planning.
  • To attend INSET, as required by the Headmistress.
  • To identify INSET opportunities for staff.
  • To line manage and appraise all members of the music department
  • To monitor the medium-term planning of those members of staff teaching music.
  • To observe lessons and contribute to the professional review process.
  • To support the induction of new staff teaching music.
  • To be available to meet with parents to discuss pupil progress as appropriate.

Requirements

The ideal candidates will have the following qualifications, skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and QTS (with appropriate specialisation);
  • Minimum of 2 years full time, post-qualification teaching experience in the same field.
  • Minimum 25 years old;
  • Exceptional communication skills and cultural sensitivity;
  • The ability to innovate, excite and inspire children and colleagues;
  • Willing to embrace new methods of teaching delivery, particularly using Apple tech as we move towards Apple Distinguished School Status
